INJ provides a student prize at Environ each year
Environ is the annual Irish Environmental Researchers Colloquium hosted by the Environmental Sciences Association of Ireland (ESAI). The awards are made to students for the best Natural History Presentation. In addition to a cash prize, winners receive a free annual subscription to INJ.
2024 winner – Lydia Thompson, University College Dublin. For her presentation “Evaluating agri-environmental measures for conserving bumblebees”
2023 winner – Elena Aitova, University of Galway. For her presentation “Carbon Balance of a Restored Irish Raised Bog: Comparing Model to Estimate GHG Emissions”
2022 winner – Omotola Odetayo, Wageningen University and Research Centre, Netherlands for her presentation “Can multispecies grasslands simultaneously improve herbage productivity and micronutrient uptake?”
2021 winner – Andrew Neill, Trinity College Dublin for his presentation “Integration of ecosystem services and natural capital within the Irish policy landscape”
INJ James Fairley Prize at All-Ireland Mammal Symposium 2024
Dr James Fairley (1940-2023) was a long term supporter of INJ and through his generosity there was a prize awarded at AIMS 2024 for the best student presentation.
The recipient was Killian J. Murphy of UCD for his talk on ‘The Goodger, the Badger and the Ugly disease: investigating the role of badgers in bovine tuberculosis transmission after forest clearfell.’
